What Is In The Way of World Peace?

Okay, so if you're thinking that our beliefs are not the only thing in the way of world peace and it's just not that simple...  I agree!

Well, on another level.  You see it is just that simple but if we want to achieve world peace, then there are a few things we have to work through.  I mean really, we cant just wake up one day and say "I now believe that world peace is possible" and viola, the world is at peace.

Here are the major obstacles as I see them:

1.  Your Beliefs
2.  Monetary based society
3.  Scarcity
4.  The absence of a common understanding and commitment to having a great life experience

Four things stand in the way of the entire human race achieving world peace!  And think of it, if we achieved world peace, humanity would experience technological growth on an exponential level!

I have imagined many times of what the world would be free to do if not for these four things being in our way.  We would actually begin to experience the true beauty and potential of life!

What would the world look like if:

1.  We all understood that we do not have to be attached to our beliefs and our beliefs do not make us who we are.

2.  What if we did not have the constraints of a monetary system?  If money were no object couldn't we use all our resources and intellect to cure all disease, invent unlimited technologies and explore the universe?

3.  What if everything was available in abundance.  Like food, shelter, clothing and basically everything you wanted was readily available.

4.  If all of humanity agreed on and shared a commitment to having a great life experience, EVERYTHING we know about being human and living life would change for the better!

In the next posts, were going to explore each of these four obstacles and you will see how the way that human beings are currently living life is absolutely absurd!  You will probably want to toss out the old life and start living your new life right NOW!

Your Belief In World Peace

Do you believe that World Peace is possible?

Notice I use the word "believe"...  If you don't believe that world peace is possible, it may be because you were raised Christian and one of your strongly held beliefs is that the bible teaches that we will not have peace on earth until the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ.

For many Christians of whom I'm familiar, this is a VERY strongly held belief.

So for the moment, if you are Christian, just consider for a moment that if "YOU" had been born into a Muslim family, or a Hindu family would you still have this very strongly held belief?

Now I'm really stretching because I'm not familiar enough with Hinduism  or Islam to know if they believe in the possibility of world peace.

My point is that if you are clinging to the argument that your religion tells you that world peace is not possible because of this or that or something has to happen first or whatever, then the only thing in your way is a strongly held belief.

I'm not discounting your strongly held belief.  Many millions of human beings have died and every single day many more die because they believe so strongly!

Consider this:  We are willing to fight, kill and die for our strongly held beliefs and most of these beliefs are NOT even our own!  We believe in what we believe because of where and when we were born.

Stop right now just for a few seconds and contemplate this!

I remember the day that figured this out.  I was about 45 years old, I had been through 2 marriages, and I was pretty sick of how things in my life were going.  I began to walk myself through my life looking at what I had done and why I had done things and who I thought that I was.  On that day, I came to the conclusion that I never really looked at what I believed and why I believed it.  I had been taught a good many things that I identified with but I really didn't question much of what I believed.

All of a sudden my perspective of the world and myself changed!

Everyone says that they want world peace. Really, if you ask anyone the question: “Would you like to see world peace?,” they will all give you the same answer. The answer is always “yes” and it is usually accompanied by the sad resolve that they do not believe it is possible. Here is something to contemplate with regard to why it is essential to imagine world peace if you really want to have it:

We are spinning through space on this little blue ball a million times smaller than the closest star that gives us life. We are one of billions of people on Earth. Our Earth is just one planet in a solar system which is one of billions of solar systems in our Milkyway Galaxy each with stars and planets of their own.

And our Milkyway Galaxy is just one of billions of galaxies throughout the universe. We are literally one of billions and billions and billions. This realization may make you feel pretty small! Yet, the only thing that makes us small is that we can be small minded. Each of our brains has as many neural connections as there are stars in our galaxy. Yet we cannot seem to imagine the possibility for a world that is peaceful and cooperative. Mankind lived in caves until we imagined into reality that we could
build homes and eventually, magnificent structures. Even today we look at the ancient pyramids and cities with awe and wonder. We imagined roads and great cities with shining buildings that touch the sky and now they are common place. We imagined ourselves traveling to and landing on the moon when we could barely build the computers and technology necessary to support our vision. There is a reliable and proven system of imagining what we want into reality.

We imagine ourselves becoming doctors, scientists, teachers, builders, even great leaders and we become them. We imagine having a new car, a refrigerator, attaining the ability to fly and our reality accommodates what we imagined. Yet, we still do not understand that to have a world that lives in peace, all we have to do is imagine it into reality. Imagine a world that does not have a monetary system. A world that plays an entirely different game.

A world that has the single common goal of ensuring that humanity will thrive! Imagine a world where there is no such thing as poverty. Imagine a world where we build things to last so that we don't spend most of our lives repeating the process of creating the same things over and over because they are designed to not last. Imagine a world where we teach our children to manage the resources of the Earth instead of consuming them.

Imagine a world without hunger, a world without war, a world without greed. Of all the great achievements of man the single greatest (World Peace) will be real when we imagine it to be so.

If all we ever imagine for ourselves is a world that is corrupt and evil then that is the world we will have. If we imagine that we live to work and consume then that is what we are stuck with. We have to imagine that world peace is possible before we can have it. The amazing thing about imagining something is that as soon as you do, all sorts of ideas will pop up supporting the what you imagined. The possibility that you create will begin to fill with real substance and whatever you imagined takes on a life of its own. I listen to the rhetoric of the politicians who over and over propose that they can lead our countries and that they have a solution to the most pressing issues. I can’t help but utter “bull-crap” in my mind every time one of these big winded blowhards gets up to the podium. They are all spewing out the same tired old ideas that they have said for a long time. None of them is really thinking outside the box.

Okay, so its time for a little reality check... Do you think for one minute that as advanced as our world has become, if our so called "world leaders" wanted world peace that we couldn't have it for some reason?  If they sought world peace, we would have it!  More importantly, if WE sought world peace WE would ALL have it!

Wow, kinda sad to arrive at this realization isn't it.

How Our Strongly Held Beliefs Divide Us

Your strongly held beliefs in fact are so strongly held that each of you would likely be willing to fight and kill for them!

So... Logic would dictate that the obstacles that we have for actually achieving World Peace have nothing to do with our skin color, genetics or gender.  Our obstacles are purely made up and based on our beliefs in-which we identify who we are!

This idea is incredibly profound and simple that I'm in awe of it!

As a programmer, I often break complex things down to their simplest form to really see how they work.  If you just stop for a moment right now an think about what you just read, I know that it will make absolute sense to you because it is pure logic.  The outcome of logic like this is predictable and doesn't change.

Now, if we establish that the only thing in the way of achieving world peace is our strongly held beliefs, doesn't make sense that all we have to do is give up those beliefs or develop respect and tolerance for someone else's strongly held beliefs?  Sure it does!

Ahh... And this is precisely where things get sticky!

Because we identify "who we are" based on our strongly held beliefs it is seemingly very difficult to give those beliefs up without destroying our identity.

Then there is the idea that one persons beliefs may be disgusting to the other person or their life-style based on their beliefs maybe disgusting to the other person.

But remember, you strongly held beliefs may or may not be the truth.  They are simply your beliefs.  For the most part you did not think them up,  you did not scientifically prove them from theory and you did not likely even research most of them!

You, like all the other human beings on this planet inherited them in the language, culture, traditions and experiences that you have had to this point in time!

You have developed a series of filters for who you are, what you stand for and a perspective of others according to where and when you were born.

This is just logical and you cannot formulate an effective argument against this logic because you know that if you were born into another place or time that was very different, you would be very different.

We humans are not so different than computers.  Our brains are programmed based on our experiences and if we change the experiences (programming) then who we think we are, how we behave in the world and our perspective of the world changes.

If you want to prove to yourself that the programming concept is true, notice how when you tie your shoe or open a door, you don't have to really think about it.  The pattern and programming is already there and you are not even conscious to it anymore. We are in automatic mode most of the time as we walk, open doors, drive cars, pick things up etc.

I like to think at this stage of the conversation that to fix our world and have World Peace, we all just need a few bug fixes and a good reboot to get us back on track.  Well, maybe even a nice upgrade!

So... lets review and make sure your on track with me so far.

Do you agree that you are who you think you are based on your strongly held beliefs?

Do you agree that most of your strongly held beliefs aren't even yours?  i.e. You were taught certain things from the time that you were born.  Most of these things were not something that you scientifically proved to yourself or even researched.  You were taught things and to this day most of them make up your beliefs.

Do you agree that if you were born in another very different place or time that your strongly held beliefs would be based on your experiences in that place and time?

It is important to think about these things because this is fundamental in establishing that world peace is even possible!

Achieving World Peace (Live Book)

You may be wondering what a "Live Book" is or you may have figured it out correctly if you guessed it to be a book that is written on the fly.

Our world is dynamic and I believe that we need ideas and solutions that are just as dynamic.  Ideas and solutions that evolve while remaining fundamentally true to their intended application.

I am going to grow this site into a full-blown database of problems, ideas and solutions that will allow everyone to collaborate and maybe one day be used by Artificial Intelligence when it becomes not so artificial!

This book is dedicated to sharing ideas for Achieving World Peace.

I have to start by telling you a little about myself...

Like most of you who come to read this, I am just an average guy.  I'm not a celebrity, I'm not wealthy, I'm not particularly gifted or genius.

Automatically, that may dissuade you from reading further or you may discount what I present to you because I don't represent what you are programmed to see as authority or an accredited source.  I sincerely hope that it doesn't and I encourage you to read on, leave me comments, and contribute to this most worthy cause.

I'm also going to just warn you that I'm going to give it to you straight and raw.  I'm not always politically correct and I don't care if you are offended or if you cozy up to what I write.  This book is meant to effect change and if that means somebody has an issue and it causes you to get ticked off and disagree, then at least I got you thinking!

I will refrain from using vulgar language and that is my only concession although I may not respond to comments on hotly debated subjects with that same discipline! :)

If you would like to republish any of this material for whatever purpose you like, you may do so as long as you give me the credit for it and link back to this site.

Without further ado, lets get on with Achieving World Peace!

Summary of The Basic Problem And Why We Don't Have World Peace

Many think it is just the nature of mankind to be greedy and to want to dominate.  Hurting, killing and taking what we want from or fellow man is just in our nature.  I suppose that's right because if you put 4 or 5 babies in a small area together unattended for an hour, one or 2 of them will just beat the others and take their stuff.  That makes me laugh to think of it!  We all know that while they may take each others binki or bottle they will share and show compassion toward each other.  Nobody's going to get beat up.  Their not going to form packs and plot against each other.  Their not even going to build walls or look for places to hide from one another.

There are studies that show that babies are not naturally aggressive toward each other.  They are naturally inclined to help not hinder.

In any case, once we are fully developed human beings, we have a set of core beliefs that we hold onto so tightly because we associate "who we are" with those beliefs.

Here's how you can prove this theoretically to yourself.  If you were cloned at birth and your clone which is identical were raised in say Iran while you were raised in the USA, and your clone was raised Muslim while you were raised Christian, would you and your clone believe and see the world from very different perspectives?  Of course you would!

Your clone would have his perspective and you would have your perspective.  Your clone would have been exposed to different foods, cultures, religions, traditions and languages.  Therefore, your identical clone would behave differently from the way that you behave even though you share identical DNA.

The only difference between you and your clone are the circumstances that you were raised and because of those circumstances, your strongly held beliefs.
